PENNY AND RIO BOOK GIVEAWAY

PENNY & RIO
THE MYSTERIOUS BACKYARD MEETING

DESCRIPTION (from Publisher)

A dog named Jack, lives with his other animal friends on a ranch. After seeing what mischief he can get himself into, and not finding any, he falls asleep. He dreams of being chased by a giant squirrel. When he falls down a hole, he lands in his toy box, on top of his favorite squeak toys. While playing with the cow, the others (horses, pigs, and ducks) start to grow and move around. Soon all the squeak toys circle Jack and he must find a way out. When he sees an opening, a large duck blocks his path. Jack and the duck try to out bark and out quack each other. Pretty soon Jack sees an opening and makes a run for it. As he does, all the squeak toys vanish in a puff of smoke and a cow sneezing on him awakens Jack. Thinking the cow is his squeak toy, Jack runs inside the house and looks inside his toy box to see if all the squeak toys are there. [close]

MY THOUGHTS ON JACK'S DREAMS COME TO LIFE BY SARA JACKSON

JACK"S DREAMS COME TO LIFE
BY SARA JACKSON

About Sara Jackson

Professional author Sara Jackson is a graduate of San Francisco's Academy of Art University, where she earned her Bachelor's degree in screenwriting. After graduating, she became a freelance writer for The American Canyon Eagle. Ms. Jackson is a regular contributor of Gorezone Magazine, and she has written numerous book and movie reviews for Scars Magazine. She has also written opinion articles for the Times Herald, most of which address the issue of animal rights.

MY THOUGHTS

This book is a cute little story about a dog named Jack who is getting into a little bit of mischief trying to find something to play with and still has a lot of puppy left in him. He passes up the chance to play with a couple puppies because he is a big dog now. Jack falls asleep under his favorite tree at the ranch and begins to dream. He dreams about all sorts of things and one of them is a 5 foot squirrel which really scared him, a duck that puffed his chest out at him and a box of toys and he is then awakened by a cow and he runs into the house.

I think this book has a pretty good story line and my son just loved looking at the cute pictures but I feel that it was written just a little bit on the choppy side for me but that didn't seem to bother my son any except at the end it just kind of stops and it feels like there should be more to the story. Over all I feel that I could recommend this book to children around the ages of 2-4.

I would like to thank Sara Jackson and  Jaimie from Pump up Your Book for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

MY THOUGHTS ON "THE RAINDROP" BY BRIAN MCCLURE

THE RAINDROP
BY BRIAN MCCLURE
Illustrated by Buddy Plumlee

Published:    February 1st 2006 by Universal Flag Publishing
Details:    Hardcover, 36 pages
isbn:     1933426012 (isbn13: 9781933426013)

This book is about a raindrop that begins in the clouds thinking it has no purpose and then is shown going through the water cycle and learning that it does have a purpose. I thought this book was great. I read this book to my two younger boys one is 5 and the other is 10. Although the 10 year old has learned this in school already he very much enjoyed it and it was a good learning tool for the 5 year old. The rhyming of the book is very catchy and I think is very useful in keeping their attention as well as the wonderful pictures in this book. Both of the boys really liked looking at the pictures which go very well with this story.

It is well written and is a very informative book which taught the boys the water cycle without them realizing they were learning something. I liked that and I really liked the fact that it teaches them a lesson that you are important and you do have a purpose. Everything has a purpose you just might not know exactly what it is until you get to the end of the cycle.

A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Ohio born native Brian McClure is the Founder and President of The Universal Flag and its affiliate companies. He is an author, human rights advocate and messenger of the oneness of all. Inside of the Universal Flag Companies, he set up a Non Profit Foundation to help relieve the suffering which he has witnessed in third world countries, along with spreading the Universal Flags throughout the World. The flag was recently paraded and flown at The United Nations as part of World Peace Day.

Brian has been interviewed on countless national radio shows and has been in a number of publications including CNN, CBS & NBC TV. He is the host the hit radio show, "A Call To Consciousness" – which is heard weekly on KTLK 1150AM in Los Angeles and KFNX 110AM in Phoenix Arizona.

He has spoken at many organizations, churches and institutions including The Agape Spiritual Center, The Inside Edge and The Onion based at the Unity Spiritual movement Center. Brian’s humanitarian efforts have extended worldwide. Recently Brian took it upon himself to visit and document impoverished communities in Sierra Leone which had just ended an 11 year war several years before, and Uganda. Upon his return he has been very proactive creating awareness about the real conditions which go largely unreported in the US.

Brian once stated: ''The power of a symbol cannot be underestimated. Politicians use symbols to gather and mobilize support. Corporations use logos to create effective, profitable brand loyalties. Now, the world has a new symbol, the Universal Flag is one that calls forth promise and potential for all. It defines our interconnectedness and oneness with ALL.” As Brian has said many times, “the Universal Flag Symbol acts as a signpost reminding us of our deepest truths. The symbol represents a world filled with infinite possibilities.”

Brian has developed an awareness of equality among all people and nationalities. His primary goal is to help people remember that inside each of us we hold the higher truths that are transforming our world.

Though the uplifting rhymes and profound messages of acceptance, respect and understanding, author Brian D. McClure educates and entertains children, parents and grandparents in the adventurous journey of The Raindrop. In this story, The Raindrop experiences many emotions as it travels from feelings of uselessness to the discovery of its importance and Interdependence of all things big and small.

The Raindrop like the other seven books in The Brian D. McClure Children’s book series offer universal life lessons that empower and educate the whole family.
